Is there an Author we can point and laugh at?

This is a temporary about me page where I’ve consolidated the two posts on myself for ease of access. Once I write my third post I’ll eventually get around to combining the three neatly into one…. For those looking for a quick fix the following.

I’m a student at NYU Tisch studying theatre in New York City. This blog chronicles both my life along with pieces on whatever I happen to find interesting or am thinking about at any given time.

There two sentence intro accomplished. Following are my more extensive musings on the most elusive of subjects,… (Why the hell I would be interesting enough for you to give a crap about what I have to say.)

Ooooh, The Introductory Who Am I Post….

I’m a college student at NYU Tisch, (yes I’m proud of that) studying Acting with an emphasis on Musical Theatre. Previous to college I went to school in Southern California at a private arts school where I also trained in theater. So discourse on all things art from the ethereal to the concrete are familiar. (Although I tend to lean towards the “please stop trying to infuse every aspect of art and creation with meaning substance and commentary on society and just let it viscerally communicate without having to make it so much more than it is” crowd) My time previously was divided between the locales of Fargo ND, Asheville NC, SoCal. Now however I call New York NY home, and am focused on survival as a poor college student with limited resources in a city that thrives on sucking them away. So because as anyone who has been to New York knows I’ll probably go through conflicting phases of inspiration, and phases of doing anything I can to stop having to think. They’ll probably be a lot about various aspects of life in nyc as this thing continues.

Anyway other things about me…. Well, I’m Gay let’s just get that one out now. (Although really not nearly as stereotypical as one would imagine considering I’m in theatre.) As a result I’m very interested in gender and identity studies. I find a lot of the inner workings of how people think fascinating as an actor, particularly those moments of crisis when people are put in situations where they are forced to react in ways that surprise even themselves.

I love and appreciate pretty much all forms of art. I’m an avid reader and devour books. I confess a love for Fantasy SciFi especially particular those works which break convention. I’m actually probably more knowledgeable in this area than theatre. And you’ll find a lot in this blog about what I’m reading or thinking about as a result.

(Currently reading, Iron Council by China Mieville, Ink and Steel by Elizabeth Bear, and Call Me by Your Name by Andre Aciman but more on those in the next couple days.)

Anyway I’m a bit tired as it’s 4 am and I’m no longer able to remember the things that make me intriguing which is always a good sign that you should stop trying to write about them….

And I’m currently listening to [Title of Show] go Title of Show! More about that and it’s wonderfulness soon.

Who the Hell is He? Part 2

Well either my friends look at the predecessor a lot, or people are actually interested in who I am so I guess now it’s time for part II the significantly shorter version. (Actually I think this post is longer than the first…)

In Part I, we learned that I’m a student in NYC. With interests in theatre, art, and literature. (Especially Sci Fi Fantasy) Now we get into the not so important I love kittens aspects of my life. (Who doesn’t love kittens, please I’m curious as to what person can defy the kitten loving instincts) Yes I’m a cat person. Though I hold no ill will towards dogs they’re just not as fascinating. (Don’t get me wrong though, I love puppies so long as I don’t have to clean up their poo) Sadly as of now I’m unable to see my adorable Scatcat do to apartment restrictions.

Back to the psuedoserious aspects of my life. Activities, I used to be a competitive swimmer but quit when I started learning to dance because swimming and dancing train the musculature of one’s body in opposition. So now I’m learning to become a dancer as part of my theatre studies, but despite great turns It’d be difficult to consider myself any good. I often go to “Yoga to the People” on St. Marks place in the evenings. When I’m away from New York I bike, never having attained my license do to the double whammy of boarding school and NYC. (Ah the things one does in boarding school that one would never be reduced to normally, or have the fortune of convincing anyone to do with you…but that’s another post, though it’s a bit passe by now so if anyone wants me to go into a confessional on my time at a private art school you’re gonna have to ask. Although where else is one’s love of nature and one’s friend’s love of cigarettes in perfect harmony!)

I’m not sure if I mentioned this before but I have a love/ignore relationship with philosophy. But I especially and always enjoy discussion of the subject even if I can’t always stand to read it.

Oh and like most teenage boys, I play videogames. Much less so now than I used to, but this segways into those more superficial and silly interests. Gonna have to go with Zelda, (Favorite Game Majora’s Mask) and Final Fantasy (XII) as my favorite series, with RPG’s being my favorite games. (Both American and Japanese)

So I’ve come to the conclusion that a part III is in order because I didn’t finish. How much can one write about themselves, apparently a lot.
